Landstruct, Our Lady Sacred Heart School, Bentleigh (VIC)
CATEGORY: Commercial Construction up to $500,000
The brief for this project consisted of a request to redesign two large common areas for students that contained outdoor seating along two walkways. A mixed material palette of timber and concrete hardscaping elements combine with softscaping in the form of shrubs and mulch to form a favourable meeting space that is attractive and functional.
Porta Cumaru FSC timber was inset in the curved concrete benches, creating a comfortable and tactile surface. Deciduous trees were also used in the courtyard to allow sunshine to beam through in winter and warm the space, while a shady canopy would appear in the warmer months, keeping the space temperature controlled year round.
“This project displayed a high-quality finish across both hard and softscape works. Fine details on the project included first-rate formwork as well as the use of high-quality materials. The benches and seats blend concrete work and timber together brilliantly with seamless transitions, and subtle inset lettering and images have a noticeable impact on the overall landscape. The maturing garden beds set it all off thanks to design highlights and excellent plant stock. “
