Starting from a dirt patch and finishing with custom made furniture on a checkerboard tile layout, this site is located within one of the most prestigious schools in Brisbane. The scope of this project included sandstone walls, garden beds, paving, a custom pergola with stainless wire and custom-made table and seating.

Herston Quarter is a visionary five hectare health, hospital and aged care development, the first stage of the $1.1 billion master planned Herston Health Precinct, the project will elevate Brisbane’s international status as a world-leading healthcare and medical research precinct. SELF’s part of the project comprised the new Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service building, and Spanish Steps.

Tobruk Memorial Drive Lookout was designed by Cardno for Toowoomba Regional Council. It is inspired by the area’s Indigenous heritage and is truly a sight to behold. Construction was part of the $7.4 million Toowoomba Escarpment Parks Upgrades project, supported by both Toowoomba Regional Council and the Queensland Government.

Situated in a two-storey courtyard with glass frontage, the site was an incredibly challenging space due to access limitations and its use as a common thoroughfare. The design achieved balancing its functionality as an all access walkway, an outdoor classroom and learning space, and an engaging and adventurous place for children to play and explore, while also ensuring an aesthetic appeal from the curbside

Prahran Square is a spectacular architectural community piazza area. The city of Stonnington’s $60 million plus transformation of the old Cato Street carpark in Prahran delivered around 10,000 square metres of multifunctional urban parkland that sits above the 500-space carpark.

The brief for this project consisted of a request to redesign two large common areas for students that contained outdoor seating along two walkways. A mixed material palette of timber and concrete hardscaping elements combine with softscaping in the form of shrubs and mulch to form a favourable meeting space that is attractive and functional.

The Arid Garden is a timeless example of a stunningly beautiful and a very well-constructed project. From the hand excavation around existing historic trees to the careful placement of basalt rocks consistent with the Guilfoyle-design style, this project has been built with careful understanding and love of the craft of landscaping.
