An energised School community partnered with ULP to develop the space. This inner city location is home to an engaged and vibrant School community. The design was to create diverse, engaging areas for learning and play while respecting the strong heritage and community values that were underpinning the project.
An outdoor learning space to engage the students at Leichhardt Public School.
Featuring a large red aircraft modelled on the Catalina flying boat from WW II, Drimme Park in Clarkson, Western Australia, has kids of all ages buzzing.
Starting from a dirt patch and finishing with custom made furniture on a checkerboard tile layout, this site is located within one of the most prestigious schools in Brisbane. The scope of this project included sandstone walls, garden beds, paving, a custom pergola with stainless wire and custom-made table and seating.
An existing operating centre in need of a revamp. Contractor demolished the existing surface finishes and created an inviting space for children, inclusive of: Timber log rill, water play area, and misting log posts.
With proximity to the coast, Sippy Downs Early Learning Centre aimed to celebrate the local environment throughout the centre and outdoor play space. The coastal inspiration is immediately evident in the unique, custom designed water play zone. Fabricated ‘Wave’ water sprayers with decorative coloured panels create a dynamic focal point, which are supported by in-ground water jets and themed wet pour rubber surface. A deck with expressed carved log posts creates a “Jetty” appearance.
Situated in a two-storey courtyard with glass frontage, the site was an incredibly challenging space due to access limitations and its use as a common thoroughfare. The design achieved balancing its functionality as an all access walkway, an outdoor classroom and learning space, and an engaging and adventurous place for children to play and explore, while also ensuring an aesthetic appeal from the curbside
The brief for this project consisted of a request to redesign two large common areas for students that contained outdoor seating along two walkways. A mixed material palette of timber and concrete hardscaping elements combine with softscaping in the form of shrubs and mulch to form a favourable meeting space that is attractive and functional.
